Blocking Buffs: In Game and Manually

This section shows you how to block beneficial spells within the game as well as manually by editing the .ini file. This can also be used to block Mod Rods etc. This can be used to block buffs to yourself and your pet.

Please Note: EverQuest only allows you to have up-to 30 different spells blocked, so choose wisely.

In Game

You have two ways to block spells in game, and these are as follows:

1) Allow the spell you wish to block to be cast on you or your pet, and then right-click on the spell and select Add this spell to list of blocked spells.

2) Use the /blockspell command (see General Commands for further information).

Manual Workaround

Please Note: Please ensure sure you are completely logged out of EverQuest before making any changes (as otherwise they could be lost).

You need to edit your .ini file and this is called Yourname_server.ini and found in your EverQuest installation folder, in this file you will find a section called [BlockedSpells] (or for your pet [BlockedPetSpells]), and you need to edit the BlockedSpellID#= lines (or for your pet BlockPetSpellID#=), i.e.

[BlockedSpells]
BlockedSpellID0=-1
BlockedSpellID1=-1
etc.

[BlockedPetSpells]
BlockedPetSpellID0=-1
BlockedPetSpellID1=-1
etc.

Please Note: A value of -1 means that there is no spell being blocked (as assigned to that entry) - thus if you wish to removed a blocked spell, just put in -1.

Now you need to determine the spell number of the spell(s) you wish to block (however this does not work for negative spells, i.e. DoTs, etc!), the easiest way to do this is to go to http://lucy.allakhazam.com and search for a spell. Type in the name of the spell you wish to block in the Spell Search box.

Lets say we want to block that horrible Ranger buff called Strength of Tunare, when you type this in the search box, when you get the spell displayed, you will notice that the URL has changed, and it now states http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=3487&source=Live. The number next to id= is the number you need, so in this case its 3487. All you need to do now is update one of the BlockedSpellID#= lines to equal 3487 instead of -1. i.e.

BlockedSpellID0=3487

Just continue for each spell you wish to block.
